Collection Overview
The collection is mostly classical and is all vinyl LPs. It was built up over the period 1973 to 1994. Nearly all of the LPs (and boxed sets) were purchased new although some were acquired second-hand; I was scrupulous about those purchased second-hand and only bought those which were in, at least, very good condition (grading comments are given below).
My collection comprises works from a wide variety of composers, some well-known and some less so, but I have a particular fondness for English music from the first half of the twentieth century. Works from the so called "cow pat" school (Vaughan Williams, Holst, Finzi, Moeran, etc.), together with works from the more hard-edged composers (Rawsthorne, Walton, Lambert, Bliss, Berkeley, Tippett, etc.), are well represented and, as a consequence, the labels "Lyrita", "Chandos", "Argo", "Hyperion" and "HMV" are well to the fore,
The collection has been stored in purpose-built cabinets in an upright position, as shown in the picture at the top of this page. Most have anti-static inner sleeves and all have any additional literature (information, lyrics, libretti, etc) that was included with the original LP(s).
Each sleeve has (somewhat unfortunately!) my name, together with the date that I acquired the LP, written in ball-point ink, usually in either the left or right hand bottom corner on the reverse of the sleeve (in the case of non gate-fold sleeves), on the inside bottom corner (for gate-fold sleeves) and the inside of the box cover (in the case of boxed sets).
The gradings which I have given are all visual and the records are, in the main, excellent to mint - I really did look after my LPs! Where there are imperfections, either on the disc or the sleeve, I have noted this in the listings.
Prices are in in GBP sterling and these are given in the appropriate page listing within the "Label Catalogue" section for LPs listed in the "Classical" and "Mediaeval & Renassance" sections. For LPs in the "Popular" section, the prices are listed in that section along with a brief note on the condition/grade. Note that items listed in yellow have been sold.
